Part 3 – Photo Story

The aim with this part 3 was to create a PDF document using InDesign. It had to be a six-image photo story with supporting contextual essay, laid out in the relevant magazine or advertising campaign format.

Andy Young 2 – BACP 201 – Photo Story – Gritty Women PDF

Gritty Women was an interesting subject to research. The contextual essay within my ‘Gritty Women’ PDF is factual and has been created as such. In doing this, I have highlighted women whom, I would describe as ‘Gritty’ every day of the week. However, researching the phenomena  ‘Gritty Women’, Getty and particularly Sylvia Sandberg seemed to have categorised the ‘Gritty Woman’ where they don sports clothes and do ‘Gritty’ things or are suited women of big business. Sylvia Sandberg has come under considerable criticism for this, as I have mentioned in the photo story. Getty has seemed to have placed ‘Gritty Women’ in a ‘Chocolate Box’ of ‘Nice’  images that could be on the front of Vogue or similar magazines.

I do feel however, that there are many other types of ‘Gritty Woman’ possibly ‘Grittier’. Such as:

The above few images is just the tip of the iceberg of women who I consider as ‘Gritty’. Policewomen, military women, paramedics, nurses and many more. It is definitely a personal point of view what one feels constitutes a ‘Gritty Woman’
